Richard was a distinguished maritime author and naval historian.  His non-fiction work includes The Real Cruel Sea, The Battle of the River Plate, Malta Convoys and Arctic Convoys.  He was the author of the Nathaniel Drinkwater series of novels which were originally published by John Murray.  Other historical novels include The King’s Chameleon, A Ship for the King and Sword of State.
