A former criminal lawyer, James is the author of more than twenty books including the Gangland series.  He has also co-written books with the police officer responsible for the conviction of the Krays, Leonard Read (Nipper); and the gangster Frankie Fraser (Mad Frank’s Britain). 

James has co-authored books with Susanna Lobez for Melbourne University Press about Australian crime, including Gangland Australia and Dangerous to Know.

His latest book is Krays: The Final Word (Mirror Books) now in development as a major TV series
